GUEST CHEF

Romy Gill

05.08.2026

We're delighted to welcome Romy Gill MBE back to Y Marram for a one-night-only guest chef evening celebrating her vibrant Indian cooking, storytelling, and shared dining.

Romy holds a special place in Y Marram's story — it was Romy who cooked our very first Guest Chef dinner, and every visit since has felt like a homecoming. Her food is rooted in the flavours of her childhood in West Bengal: bold spicing, real warmth, and dishes that carry family stories with them. She cooks the way she talks — generously, joyfully, and with nothing held back.

And this visit comes at a thrilling moment. This September, Romy opens her new restaurant, Romy Gill at The Pem, at the Conrad London St. James — her return to a permanent restaurant kitchen after six years, celebrating authentic regional Indian cuisine. We've been working on it with her on this, and on 5th August Y Marram guests might just be among the very first to taste where she's heading next. Expect music, laughter, a Q&A, and the kind of evening only an old friend of Y Marram can deliver.

Romy Gill

Romy Gill MBE is one of Britain's best-loved chefs — a food writer, author, and broadcaster whose cooking bridges her West Bengal upbringing and her adopted home in the West Country. In 2013 she opened Romy's Kitchen in Thornbury, becoming one of the first Indian women in the UK to own and run her own restaurant, and in 2016 she was awarded an MBE in the Queen's 90th Birthday Honours for her services to hospitality.

She is the author of acclaimed cookbooks including Zaika and On the Himalayan Trail, and a familiar face and voice on Ready Steady Cook, Saturday Kitchen, and BBC Radio 4's The Food Programme. This September she opens Romy Gill at The Pem at the Conrad London St. James — her first permanent restaurant kitchen in six years, focused on authentic regional Indian cooking.
